COLIN MONK survived a tense encounter with former World Matchplay champion Larry Butler in the last match of the night to qualify for the third round of the Blue Square UK Ooen at The Reebok Stadium, Bolton.
Ian Critchett won a deciding leg against Holsten qualifier Kevin Beare in the first round but went down to former winner Roland Scholten in Round 2.
Ian Jopling lost 6-4 to local Louis Blundell in his opening match.
